Christianity, Values and spirituality in the Noughties
“Life is a gift.” I often hear this phrase being said. But many of us who go through struggles in life think about the reasons why need to go through all this pain, all this sorrow. Sometimes we just think why do we need to suffer if in the end we will go to a better place? There are so many things that we want to know about life, about existence but what we long for is happiness and release; release from pain.

Should we ever believe in psychics? That is the question. As Catholics and Christians we have always, always struggled with things that is beyond what the Church and dogma tells us. We fear what is unknown. We declare evil what is beyond our understanding. But to be a child of God, should we really be ignorant? To be children of God should we shun the gifts that God has given to his other children?
Praying is about communicating with God. It is a moment where you open your heart and talk to him. Prayer can be a song, a dance or a thought that you offer to God. But how should we really pray? How should we commune with God? How do we speak do to Him? Does he even ever hear our prayers?
“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained’” (John 20:21-23).
It is Sunday morning and you hear your alarm buzzing. You struggle to get out of bed. Go to the bathroom. Try to brush your hair and teeth. You stare at yourself in the mirror and think to yourself “Do I really need to go to Church today?”. Then you decide to jump back to bed and tell yourself “Just another five minutes… Zzzz…” and then you wake up 20 minutes later. You now scramble to get dressed and just put your hair in a ponytail because it just won’t agree with you. You run out carrying your shoes as you go out of the door on your way to church.
Becoming a Christian and accepting Christ as your personal Lord and Savior is one of the best things that can ever happen to you. You are full of joy and excitement. You feel the rush of the Messiah going into every fibre of your soul. You feel like you are going to explode with joy. You are so full of blessings that you just want to share it into the world. But the world can be cruel and sinful at times. It has it’s temptations that pull you away from your relationship with Christ. So you try your best to be a good Christian despite what the world outside the church is; the question is how? How do you live a life pleasing to God in this modern times? How do you relate with your non believer friends and relatives with sounding too righteous or awful?
